At the heart of Our Lady of Mercy Academy’s success is our Parent’s Society.   It functions much like the Parent/Teacher Organizations found in many elementary schools and is always looking for active members.

The organization is comprised of an Executive Board, which includes OLMA’s Head of School and Officers, and parents.  The Parent’s Society meets monthly and plans and organizes a number of special events and activities for the school community.

Freshmen and New Student Reception

Welcome to the OLMA family!  At the beginning of each school year, the Parent’s Society hosts a reception for all new students and their families.  It’s a great time to meet other new parents and students, as well as your daughter’s teachers. Parent’s Society members will also be there to explain how you can get involved. Back-to-School Night, which involves all school families, follows at 7:00 PM.  As part of the larger school community, you will hear from our Head of School, as well as experience a day in your daughter’s life at OLMA.

Communion Breakfast

This event enables the entire OLMA family to come together spiritually.  It begins with a beautiful Mass planned by students and is followed by a buffet breakfast in Carew Hall.  This event often includes guest speakers and other special presentations.  This year’s Communion Breakfast will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2017.

Shadow Day

There’s no better way to experience OLMA than to shadow an existing student.  The Parent’s Society helps make that possible by assisting with the planning and refreshments for two school-wide Shadow Days.  These events are held for young women in Grades 6-8.  A full day of activities are planned so that prospective students can see OLMA academics, athletics, service learning, and sisterhood in action.  This year’s Shadow Days will be held on October 13, 2017 and October 27, 2017 — followed by Open House on November 9, 2017.

Open House

On Open House day, students, teachers, coaches, alumnae, and whole families gather to showcase our school.  Young women in Grades 6-8 and their families, as well as high school students who have interest in transferring.  Student Ambassadors offer tours, you’ll find demonstrations in classrooms, coaches will be on hand to highlight our sports teams, and so much more.  Plus, the Parent’s Society provides some delicious refreshments.  Open House will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017.

Faculty Appreciation Day

The Parents’ Society hosts a luncheon for the members of the school faculty and staff during Catholic Schools Week.  If you don’t have a lot of time to spare, this is a great event for you.  Just sent in a dish and you’re done.

Super 50/50

This one is a biggie and requires all hands on deck!  It’s our largest fundraising event of the year, raising over $30,000 annually.  A total of 400 tickets are sold.  Each ticket includes two spots at the drawing party and the chance to win huge cash prizes (ranging from $250 to $10,000).  The drawing party, held in Carew Hall, is a great night.  It features a hot buffet, beer, coffee and tea, and desserts.  Each family is asked to sell or buy two (2) tickets — and while it’s lots of fun, you do not need to be present to win.
