When it comes to deciding which college or university is right for you or your daughter, it’s all about fit. Colleges, like high schools, come in all shapes and sizes. They are large, medium and small; public and private; single gender and co-educational; in urban and rural settings — or even overseas. They have different cultures, academic offerings, sports and clubs. And, of course, they come with all sorts of price tags and scholarship opportunities.
At Our Lady of Mercy Academy (OLMA), we believe that the best way to get a feel for fit is by taking to the highway on college tours. This summer, OLMA is offering two college tours — one to five schools in the Philadelphia area and the other to eight schools in MD, DC and DE.
Each year, OLMA hosts a group of professionals who speak about their careers, share their experiences and provide helpful tips and advice. This year, we were fortunate to have 12 career professionals on campus for our Annual Career Day. We heard from medical and anti-money laundering professionals, social workers, health and wellness experts, a U.S. Ambassador, police officer, lawyer, business marketer, pharmacist, and Information Technology technician about what it takes before during and after college to find your passion and be successful. The day began with introductions and a keynote speech by Laurie Dwyer, Health Sciences Advisor at Rowan University, before transitioning into small group sessions. We wrapped up with a career fair in the gym that provided students with the opportunity to speak personally with each of the professionals.
College fairs are held throughout the year. OLMA will keep you updated on the ones located in the tri-state area.
Instant Decision and College Interview Days
On Instant Decision Days, students have the opportunity to interview with select colleges and be accepted on the spot. This year, we will be holding a combined Instant Decision and College Interview Day on Tuesday, November 7 at 10:00 AM. Stay tuned for more details as they are finalized.
College Visits to OLMA
Each fall, admissions representatives from a wide variety of colleges and universities visit OLMA to meet with students. While here, they provide information sessions for any students who are interested in learning more. This is a great opportunity to get all of your questions answered.
The following is a list of some of the schools that came on campus this year. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Szawlewicz in the College Guidance Office.
