Student Spotlight: Meet Tori Smith, Class of 2018

By January 17, 2018 OLMA Headlines

OLMA senior, Tori Smith is nearly always smiling, plays a mean tambourine, looks out for her friends, and is as fun loving as they come. She’s also at the top of her game both academically and athletically.

While softball is her first love, Tori is tearing up the basketball court this season averaging 15.2 points per game! She’s one of the area’s top scorers and she’s just getting started. OLMA Athletics is part of the Cape Atlantic League and Tori says that her goal is to make First Team in basketball and softball this year. “I’ve been named to Second Team and received Honorable Mention before, but I’m going for First Team this time around,” said Tori. “I want to finish strong.”

She is certainly on the right track and loving every minute of it. In true Tori style, she is giving her all and is proud of her entire team. “We have a lot of new players and are competing against a lot of larger schools, but we’re holding our own,” she said. “We don’t always win, but we get better, reflect, re-group and get back out there.”

Tori’s can-do attitude has served her well academically, as well as athletically. She is an excellent student and plans to pursue a career in Engineering. Already accepted by six schools, she’s waiting to hear from the rest before making a final decision on where she will spend her college years.

Tori said that she found her way to OLMA by shadowing Brittni Giosa, Class of 2016. “I also knew a few other girls and Amanda Willis and I were friends and decided to check it out,” she said. “I’d do it all over again because I can’t see myself anywhere else.” The same is true when she talks about her love for OLMA Softball.

“I love softball and play third base,” said Tori. I had hoped to have my 100th hit by now, but I broke my wrist and tore some ligaments in sophomore year.” She’s ready now and determined to reach that milestone this spring along with making First Team.

In the meantime, Tori is enjoying senior year with her classmates. “We all get along great,” she said. “We’re really excited for everything that’s coming next like our Disney Trip, Prom, Mary Day and Graduation.” Don’t blink, Tori, as it will be here before you know it. Enjoy.
