OLMA Students Find Inspiration in “Hidden Figures”

As part of their Catholic Schools Week celebrations, Our Lady of Mercy Academy (OLMA) students traveled to Regal Theaters for a private screening of the movie, “Hidden Figures.”  It was part math, part science, part history, and completely inspirational.  “At OLMA we tell the girls that they can do anything they put their minds to doing,”  says Brooke Coyle, Head of School.  “This story is living proof that what we say is true.  It also brought to life for them a very significant time in our nation’s history.”  Many of the students were surprised by the degree to which inequality existed back then. “People greatly underestimated the ability of women to succeed in the work place,” said Gianna Capriotti.  “It’s better now, but inequalities still exist.  After seeing this movie, I don’t plan to let anything or anyone hold me back.  I’m glad that this story is being told.”
